Chinese Cinnamon Bark
Chinese Cinnamon Bark (Cinnamomum Aromaticum, Cassia Cinnamon) is an evergreen tree that is native in China and Vietnam. It has reported medical uses that date back to 2700 B.C. in ancient Chinese formularies.
There are a variety of cinnamons besides the Chinese (Cassia). The types used in the store are often a combination of Ceylon cinnamon and Cassia.
Orally, cinnamon has been traditionally used as an appetite stimulant for stomach complaints such as spasms, bloating and gas. Recent research has shown cinnamon helpful in reducing serum glucose, triglyceride, LDL cholesterol, and total cholesterol in people with type 2 diabetes (Cassia cinnamon was the type evaluated).
